A military funeral may include a range of ceremonial traditions that respectfully honour a veteran's service. Depending on eligibility, family wishes and available organisations, these elements can be incorporated into the farewell

The coffin may be respectfully draped with the Australian National Flag as a symbol of honour, service and sacrifice. Following the ceremony, the flag may be folded and presented to the next of kin.

Military medals, ribbons, uniforms and personal memorabilia can be displayed throughout the service to celebrate the veteran's achievements and honour their military career.

The Last Post
The Last Post is a traditional bugle call played as a final farewell, honouring the veteran's service and marking the end of their duty with dignity and respect.

A moment of silence allows family, friends and fellow service members to pause together in quiet reflection and remember the veteran's life and legacy.

Played after the minute's silence, The Rouse symbolises hope, remembrance and the enduring spirit of those who have served.

Where available, a Guard of Honour may be arranged to provide a formal military tribute, recognising the veteran's dedicated service to Australia.

Local Returned & Services League (RSL) Sub-Branches may assist with commemorative readings, wreath presentations or other ceremonial traditions, subject to availability.
